This weeks stars of the week have blown my socks of with how hard they have worked this week and are fantastic learners.

We have carried on learning all about materials this week. We thought about this question- What material can balls be made out of? We used the TASC wheel to help us the generate some ideas and then decide that out task was to find out- Which material would make the bounciest ball? We though about how we would investigate this and chose four balls- a bouncy ball, marble, plastic ball and a sponge ball. We all predicted which ball we though would bounce the highest. We enjoyed investigating and cant wait to do the real experiment on Thursday making sure it is a fair test.

In dance this morning we have been moving our bodies in different directions, at different levels and speed whilst using different body parts. We made up our own dance listening to the story of 'The Castle'.

Friday 18 September 2015

We got a letter today from Sir Nick the Mighty he told us that his dragon had escaped from his tower. He asked us if we had seen him. The mystery was solved, it was a dragon that had been in our classroom. That explains the burning smell, the scales and glitter and the sound of fire and roaring. We created posters to put up in the village to warm people that there is a dragon on the loose. We used adjectives and some of us used similes to describe the dragons personality and appearance.

We also started our new Science topic all about materials. We thought about the objects around us that we use everyday and what materials they are made out of. We put the names of the materials on the thinking mat and hunted around the classroom for things that were made from that material. We then though of words to describe the materials- the properties of the materials. Look at the thinking mat when we had looked at each of  the materials in turn.

We have made a display to show what we have learnt- come and have a look at it in our classroom. It shows our thinking about how funny it would be if things very made out of different materials.

Wouldn't it be funny if a car was made from glass.
Wouldn't it be funny if a door was made from rubber.

We came into our classroom this afternoon and we had a surprise. Look at what we found-

We could smell burning and hear fire and some roars too!We have been investigating the scene using our senses. We also wrote down questions that we had about what had happened and we used our imaginations to think what the answer might  be. We are going to be detectives and find out what has happened in our classroom we will write a report on the incident.

Thursday 10 September 2015

Thank you so much for helping your child to find the things on the list and collect them in their shoe box. We have looked at what the children found and they have shared their objects with a friend. They have written lists about what was in their box and have decorated them.

We then read a poem by Kit Wright called The Magic Box and we wrote our own verse thinking about what we could put in the box that is not real but we could hear, see, taste, smell or touch.
Some children really used their imaginations.
I would put in the box the smell of chocolate.
I would put in the box a dinosaur claw.
I would put in the box the sound of lightning.

Have a look at our ideas on the display in the classroom.

The children have been sharing with us what they did over the summer holidays and did some fantastic writing with the title- Where did my feet take me this summer? Some children were so lucky and got to visit lots of lovely places in this country and abroad.

Following on from this and to develop our creative writing we looked at different types of shoes.
Where will my feet take me today? We put on the different shoes and imagined where we would be, what we would see and how we might feel. We each chose a pair of shoes and wrote an adventure story about where the shoes took us. Mrs Hunter was amazed with all our ideas and has put some of them on the wall in the classroom.

We have been talking about what we want to be when we grow up. We have all got amazing ideas and we want to work hard to achieve our dreams. We know we need to be good learners and always try our best, never giving up, thinking carefully and sharing our ideas. Have a look at the fantastic canvas we have created in the classroom which shows what we want to be.

Mrs. Hunter's stars of the week are fantastic learners. Their photographs are up on our wall of stars in the classroom.
